Out of the Ordinary Works

Most things we live with
are invisible to us.

OOOW is a studio that refuses to make any more of them.

On ordinary things

Most of the things we live with are invisible to us.

Not hidden — just unlooked. The cushion on the chair, the mirror in the hall, the vessel on the shelf. We stopped seeing them the moment we bought them. They became furniture, which is another word for forgotten.

OOOW was founded on a suspicion: that this is a failure of objects, not of attention. An object made carelessly teaches you not to care. An object made with intention asks something back.

Each OOOW work is made to be looked at twice. Once when it enters the room, and every day after. Every piece is bound to a single archive material — a bolt of cloth, a run of stone, a batch of glass. When that material is gone, the edition closes. The archive is always the edition.

This is not a product line. It is a refusal of the idea that the ordinary should stay that way.

Piril Kugu, architect and founder of OOOW
The Founder

Piril Kugu

Architect · Founder · Designer

Piril Kugu is an award-winning architect with over twenty years of practice across hospitality, residential, hospital, and mixed-use projects in Turkey and Australia. She founded Piril Kugu Architects in Istanbul in 2013 and has since led a portfolio exceeding sixty-five thousand square metres of built work.

Her practice has been recognised internationally — the A' Design Award (Italy, 2015) for Mila's Daphne Peninsula (now Le Méridien Resort Hotel & Residences, Bodrum), and LEED Gold certification (U.S. Green Building Council) for the Worldwide Business Center, Istanbul.

OOOW extends her practice from the architecture of space to the architecture of objects — the same attention to site, material, and gesture, held in the scale of a room.

“I don’t think that architecture is only about shelter… It should be able to excite you, to calm you, to make you think.”

Selected Architectural Works

From the shape of a room
to the story of an object.

Four works from over two decades of practice. Each carries a reading of site — weightless, tangent, shaped by topography — that now lives on in the objects OOOW makes.

Le Méridien Resort Hotel Bodrum, designed by Piril Kugu Hospitality · Bodrum, Turkey · 2016–2019

Le Méridien Resort Hotel Bodrum

A seven-storey resort on a peninsula of wild olive and daphne. The building carries a transparent floor at its centre — a suspended lobby that lets the sea pass through the mass. Marriott's Le Méridien Mediterranean debut. Part of the master plan honoured with the A' Design Award (2015). Principal Architect.

Le Méridien Residences Bodrum, designed by Piril Kugu Residential · Bodrum, Turkey · 2016–2018

Le Méridien Residences Bodrum

Residential blocks threaded through the topography of the same Aegean peninsula, each with its own outdoor space and sea view. Originally submitted to the A' Design Awards in 2015 as part of Mila's Daphne Peninsula, receiving the Award in Architecture. Renamed following Marriott partnership. Principal Architect.

The Rock House, Bodrum — private residence by Piril Kugu Private Residence · Bodrum · 2017–2019

The Rock House

A private residence set on a remote, rocky stretch of peninsula. The house begins beside a three-metre rock and wraps around it, ending above — bringing the stone inside as a natural element through the living rooms. The architecture reads as weightless and ready to fly away. Principal Architect.

Worldwide Business Center, Ataşehir Istanbul — LEED Gold Office · Ataşehir, Istanbul · LEED Gold certified

Worldwide Business Center

A tower that blossoms from the ground upward, wrapped in green terraces that collect rainwater and soften the facade. Awarded LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council for its environmental performance.
